From April 11 to 13, 2025, Pernik hosted an inspiring cultural youth exchange that brought a group of young people from Lithuania to Bulgaria. The activity is part of a culture exchange project No KA154-YOU-B121BE6C, coordinated by Radviliškis District Youth Club “Culture Hive” Association, and our association (Change, Explore and Grow by Exchange) as a partner. The main focus of the visit was to immerse the Lithuanian participants in the traditions, history, the cultural richness of Bulgaria and to meet young people from Bulgaria.

The Lithuanian group arrived on Friday, April 11, and had the whole afternoon to explore Pernik. This gave them their first impressions of the city’s atmosphere and urban life, offering a glimpse into the everyday rhythm of a Bulgarian town.

Saturday was dedicated to cultural discovery. The group began their day with visits to the Historical Museum of Pernik and the unique Museum of Mining, where they learned about the region’s industrial heritage and the important role mining played in local history. Later, they attended a vibrant folk dance event at the Palace of Culture, where they experienced live performances of traditional Bulgarian dances. The day continued with a visit to the City Art Gallery, allowing the guests to explore Bulgarian visual art and its contemporary interpretations.

In the afternoon, the Lithuanian youth participated in interactive group activities alongside local young people. These included name games, ice-breakers, cultural presentations about Bulgaria and Lithuania, discussions, and hands-on learning moments. A special highlight was the opportunity to taste a variety of traditional Bulgarian and Lithuanian snacks, which added an authentic culinary flavor to the day.

Sunday began with a celebration of the traditional Bulgarian holiday Tsvetnitsa, held with the youth from the Youth Folklore Ensemble “Chudno Oro.” This festive moment gave the Lithuanian participants a chance to witness and take part in a living tradition that holds special meaning in Bulgarian culture. Later, they attended a Bulgarian folklore dance workshop with the youths from the ensemble, where they actively learned basic steps and movements, guided by the ensemble's trainer.

The program concluded with a relaxing picnic at the scenic park near the historic Krakra Fortress of Pernik. Surrounded by nature and history, the group reflected on the rich experiences of the past days.

This youth exchange gave the Lithuanian participants a valuable opportunity to dive deep into Bulgaria’s cultural landscape — from history and folklore to art, traditions, and festive spirit — leaving them with lasting impressions and a stronger understanding of the country’s identity.
