CEGE representatives took part in "Read Twice: Immunize yourself against fake news" - a seminar to increase media literacy and limit the spread of misinformation in the media space. The seminar is part of the Read Twice project, funded by the European Union, and organized by the "Euro Advance"(„Евро Адванс“) association in partnership with IAB Bulgaria and the Municipality of Sofia. The seminar gathered in one place in the "4 Seasons" hall, Event Space 2020 representatives of the PR sector, public and local authorities, civil organizations, scientific and educational institutions, media, content creators, librarians, and other people with an active civic position, who are excited about the topic and want to improve their understanding of the dangers of misinformation and how to deal with it.
In the morning part of the event, two-panel discussions were held - "Media Literacy, Disinformation and Building Sustainable Societies" and "Practical Solutions and Technologies to Limit Disinformation". The participants in the discussions were experts from the sector of communications, media, education, technology, and discussed the dangers of the spread of disinformation in the Bulgarian context and topics such as artificial intelligence and machine-generated content, disinformation from official sources, oratory and public communication were raised.
In the afternoon part of the seminar Ch. assistant Dr. Vesislava Antonova, media expert, freelance journalist, and university lecturer conducted training on fact-checking and recognizing fake news. The training was a kind of interactive workshop during which the attendees learned about the most important principles in working with news and technology solutions that empower users.
As we have mentioned more than once, similar initiatives and projects with a focus - formed on disinformation and discussing the problems and solutions related to it, which are extremely important for the construction and development of a democratic and propaganda-resistant society. Such types of events bring together representatives of the administration, organizations, and businesses from the private sector who are directly interested in the topic and in this way build a community that has a common goal, namely to counter the disinformation that spreads everywhere in the middle space around us and beyond.
We, the team of Change, Explore and Grow by Exchange, admire those involved in the Read Twice project for their cause and believe that with similar initiatives, the media initiative space would be a place where the average literate would be able to tell apart the truth from the lies and not allow misinformation to take precedence over quality journalism.
