Our city, Pernik, is an official candidate for the title of European Youth Capital 2029 - a recognition awarded to cities that demonstrate strong commitment to youth participation, inclusion, active citizenship and long-term youth development.
Pernik’s candidacy is built upon a long-term youth strategy and a vision for the city as a place where young people have a real role in decision-making processes, access to more opportunities and an environment that supports both personal and professional growth. The main priorities of the candidacy include:
retaining and attracting young people through education, entrepreneurship and cultural life;
active youth participation in local policies and decision-making;
equal access to opportunities;
green and digital transformation with youth involvement;
international cooperation, mobility and exchange.
As part of the Youth Policy Consultative Council to the Municipality of Pernik, CEGE Association supports this candidacy and believes it is an important opportunity for the city’s development as a more active, connected and youth-oriented community.
The initiative has the potential not only to increase Pernik’s international visibility, but also to create a long-term positive impact on the local youth community through new partnerships, initiatives and opportunities for participation.
This candidacy represents more than a title — it is a vision for a city where young people are empowered to participate, create and shape the future of their community. Through stronger international cooperation, youth initiatives, mobility opportunities and active civic engagement, Pernik has the potential to become an even more inspiring environment for young people to grow, connect and stay.
We believe that investing in youth means investing in the long-term future of the city itself. Supporting young people through inclusion, education, innovation and participation is essential for building sustainable and resilient local communities.
